Nominated for MTV Movie Award’s Best Breakout Star at the age of 32, Jay Chou might become the oldest to win the title
Jay Chou's first foray into Hollywood, The Green Hornet, grossed a total of TW$6.5billion (S$280 mllion) worldwide.
When the 20th Annual MTV Movie Awards announced their nominee list a couple of days ago, 32-year-old Jay became their oldest nominee to date when he was named a contender in the Best Breakout Star category, the equivalent to the Academy Awards' Best Newcomer.
Also nominated for the category include 14-year-old Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick Ass), 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), 27-year-olds Olivia Wilde (TRON: Legacy), Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) and Xavier Samuel (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse).
In other news, Jay, who is currently in Malaysia filming The Viral Factor, secretly cut his hair short to achieve a rugged look for his new role. When his new on-set image was exposed, fans praised him for looking more mature and manly.
However, to keep his new image for the movie under wraps, the multi-hyphenate who recently went to Jinan, China for his New Era World Tour, went back to his "old looks" at the concert.
Back in Malaysia to continue shooting his movie, he remains just as concerned about the welfare of his friends back home.
He openly adviced his best friend Devon, "Stop drinking and gallivanting at Green Island (an island off Taiwan), you're a singer not a fisherman, you can't expect your daughter to eat sea weed everyday if you don't catch anything!"
Responding to Jay's words yesterday, Devon admitted, "I was at Green Island for two weeks, and (Jay) called to nag on me, asking me to go home and write songs. He really sounded just like my dad!"
The nominees for MTV Movie Awards were selected by a special team formed at creator Joel Gallen's Tenth Planet Productions. The list of nominees, which are nominated for the annual award show, will then be placed online on MTV's website for viewers to vote for a winner. This year's award presentation ceremony will be held at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, California, on June 5.
