"Haunters" Breaks Records, May Appear in International Theaters


The supernatural box office smash, "Haunters", may show in theaters across the world. 


The paranormal thriller has been sold to seven countries: Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.  Negotiations are under way for the movie to be sold to China, Japan, and the United States.


Within Korea, "Haunters" secured the highest number of advance ticket sales in four years and attracting over one million viewers within a week of its premiere on November 10. 


The movie stars Kang Dong Won, who entered the military earlier last November 18, and Go Soo.  They play men with supernatural gifts who end up in a duel against each other.

"Haunters" Tops Box Office for Second Weekend


To no one's surprise, "Haunters" topped the weekend box office chart again, according to data released by the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS).  Since its official premiere on November 10, the paranormal action film has brought in 1.6 million viewers, including 388,377 on the November 19th weekend.  So far, the movie has grossed nearly 2.8 billion won.

"Haunters", which stars Go Soo and Kang Dong Won, is about a duel between two men, one of whom has a psychic power and the other who is immune to it.

The U.S. film "The Social Network", which premiered in Korea last Friday, came in second, selling 181,642 tickets and grossing over 1.3 billion won last weekend.  In third place was the Korean film "The Unjust", which stays strong considering having premiered almost a month ago.  "The Unjust" sold 175,499 viewers during the weekend, bringing the total number of viiewers to nearly 2.34 million.

Haunters levitates to number one

Box Office News South Korean supernatural action thriller Haunters (초능력자) opened at the top of the Korean box office this weekend.

Opening a day earlier than originally scheduled on 10 Nov, the film took ₩5.1 billion ($4.5 million) over the three-day-weekend for a Sunday night gross of ₩6.9 billion ($6 million).

Produced by Zip Cinema (영화사 집) and starring Kang Dong-won (강동원) and Ko Su (고수), the film is about the psychic battle between a man who can control other people's minds and the only man outside his control.

Haunters is distributed in South Korea by Next Entertainment World and sold internationally by M-Line Film Distribution (엠라인 필름). M-Line launched sales of the film at the Asian Film Market last month.

In second place is The Unjust (부당거래), directed by Ryu Seung-wan (류승완) and starring Hwang Jeong-min (황정민) and Ryu Seung-beom (류승범) about police and judicial corruption.

The drama made ₩2,2 billion ($1.9 million) over the three-day-weekend, for a current gross of $15.4 billion ($13.6 million) for CJ Entertainment (CJ 엔터테인먼트) who represent the film both domestically and internationally.

Still in cinemas, CJ's The Man from Nowhere (아저씨) starring Won Bin (원빈) has taken ₩47 billion ($41.4 million) with 6.2 million admissions since opening on 4 August.
